Exciting Kick Off to Caribbean Cuisine & Caribbean-American Heritage Month
The Meet, Greet and Mingle event was held on a very sultry evening at Spark at Engine 12 in Washington DC. The warm weather, steel pan music, beautiful people, Carnival Masqueraders and, yes, Caribbean food and Trini rum punch bought the Caribbean to Washington DC on June 1. Event partners included Spark at Engine 12, National Caribbean-American Foods & Foodways Alliance (NCAFFA), Mayor’s Advisory Commission on Caribbean-American Community Affairs (MACCCA), Caribbean-American Chamber of Commerce of the DMV (CACCE-GWAN), Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival-DC, DC Main Streets (North Capitol, Lower Georgia Avenue, Uptown).
DC Councilmember Brandon Told attended and presented the Council Proclamation establishing June as Caribbean-American Heritage Month. Chair of the Mayor's Advisory Commission on Caribbean American Community Affairs, Mr Michael Yates, presented Mayor Muriel Bowser's Proclamation establishing June at Caribbean-American Heritage Month. Doreen Thompson did an amazing job emceeing the evening (she was also one of the prime movers behind the event).
