2019 Jetta delivers a lot of EUROPEAN SPORT SEDAN at a great price
I had a great time at the Volkswagen media drive event for the 2019 Jetta at their Headquarters near Dulles Airport on June 27th. We drove the top of the line SEL Premium which delivers a lot of European Sports sedan for $26,945.
Volkswagen parked a fully renovated 1982 Mk 1 Jetta right in front to remind us how long Jettas have been around. Volkswagen introduced the Jetta in 1979 and has sold 17 million Jettas in 39 years. — more Jettas sold than Golfs….
2019 Volkswagon Jetta engineered for the US Market. There is no longer a European Jetta. China is a big Jetta market. VW maintains that the compact sedan market is large and profitable. Cost savings have been achieved from using the MQB modular chassis platform — sharing parts used on other Volkswagens. The 7th generation Jetta boasts an upscale driver centric interior, slick, 4dr coupe-like exterior.
Front end design bears a strong family resemblance to Passat, Tiguan and Atlas.
Standard LED headlights, taillights and daytime running lights on all models 1.4l turbo makes 147HP, 30mpg City/40mpg highway, 34 combined. The Jetta is available in 5 trim levels starting with the the Jetta S at $18,545 which is the only model you can have the excellent 6 speed manual transmission. The top of the line SEL Premium Jetta is priced at $26,945 -- Of note, the 2019 Jetta SEL Premium costs about $700 more than last years model but offers $3,460 more value.

My co-driver for the day was Damolu Idowu, Publisher/Editor-in-Chief Owners Illustrated. We talk about the Jetta, driver assistive technologies, the global auto industry, the affects of tariffs on trade, machine learning and many other topics. We do get back to the Jetta which we both enjoyed and appreciate the safety, fun to drive-ness and value that Volkswagen has put into the latest Jetta.
Strap in and enjoy the ride.
