Marvin's Spicy Turkey Soup Recipes -- 2 Great Cold Remedies

I don’t tolerate cold medicines well at all.  They knock me out.  When I am awake, I’m so drowsy I can not function and feel horrible.

I’ve been making spicy soups to open up my sinuses and airways for as long as I can remember.  The steam from the broth and the aromatics from the garlic and spices do the trick.  

Please find below two quick and easy recipes for spicy soup.   

Homemade Spicy Soup Recipe: 

Cooking time — about 35 minutes

I threw this together today based on what I had in the house.  The point today was to create a spicy broth quickly.  I normally add carrots and celery to poultry soups but didn’t have them on hand today.


1 head of garlic (or as much as you can stand), divide the cloves, peel and slice them.

4 table spoons of red pepper flakes

2 table spoons sweet mesquite seasoning

2 table spoons of jerk seasoning

3 bay leaves

3 table spoons of olive oil

1/2 pound of turkey (frozen leftovers from Thanksgiving in my case)

3 cups of mixed frozen vegetables (Kirkland Stir Fry Mix is what I had on hand)

2 cups of rice, pre cooked

1/2 gallon of water

This soup comes together very quickly because the major ingredients are already cooked.  

Add the olive oil and garlic In a large stock pot, and brown the garlic.  Be careful not to burn it.  Add the other spices then the turkey.  Stir.

Note:  If starting with raw meat, cook the meat in the stock pot first.  Add the garlic and spices when the meat is almost done.

Add the water slowly and bring the soup to a slow simmer allowing all the flavors to blend.  You might want to reserve some of the water until you are happy with the consistency of the broth.

Add the frozen vegetables last and be careful not to over cook them.  


My Quick Spicy Soup Recipe: 

Cooking time — 5 minutes


1 Can of Soup, preferably noodle soup of some sort, like Chicken Noodle.

4-5 cloves of garlic, sliced

As much crushed pepper flakes as you can stand.  I usually use about 2 table spoons for a can of soup.

Additional seasonings per your taste.

Cooking Instructions:

Put the garlic and spices in a large microwaveable bowl and add enough olive oil to cover everything.

Microwave the ingredients until the garlic is browned, be careful not to burn the garlic.  It is best to watch the garlic as it cooks.  It should take less than a minute in most microwaves.

Add the can of soup to the bowl, stir, and microwave the soup until its warm.

If you’ve added enough garlic and spicy, you’ll feel the effects immediately so have some tissue nearby.  Feel better!.
